Terms of service
What Belfolio does, what it does not do, and the terms on which it is offered.
Draft of 5 Aug 2026
1. Who provides this service
Belfolio is operated by a Belgian company. Its legal name, company number, VAT number and registered address are to be inserted here before launch, together with an address for legal notices.
"Belfolio" is a working name. The final product name and domain are not yet fixed.
2. What Belfolio is, and what it is not
Belfolio is an educational computation tool. You upload exports from your own brokers; it parses them, applies the Belgian tax rules published in our methodology page, and shows you the resulting figures with the calculation behind each one.
It is not tax advice, not investment advice, and not an accounting service. We do not tell you what to buy, sell or hold, and we do not file anything on your behalf. Belfolio is not authorised or supervised by the FSMA, and nothing in the product should be read as a recommendation.
Several Belgian rules the product applies are not yet confirmed by a published official text. Those are listed openly on the methodology page, with the parameter we apply in the meantime. You remain responsible for the content of your tax return, and you should verify the figures with the FPS Finance or with your accountant before filing.
3. Your account
You need an account for the tracker; the public calculator works without one. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure, and for the accuracy and completeness of the broker exports you upload.
A broker export that starts after your first purchase produces an incomplete history. Belfolio refuses to compute a realized figure in that case rather than producing one from a history with a hole in it, and tells you to re-export from further back.
4. Free tier and subscription
The public calculator is free and always will be. A free account additionally gives you one broker account, the realized view for the current tax year, and every figure on screen.
A subscription adds consolidation across several brokers, per-parcel tracking with the ten-year holding clock, TOB packs and deadline reminders, the annual summary and its evidence file, manually tracked assets, and history.
The exact boundary between the two is configurable and may be adjusted. Where it moves in your favour it applies immediately; we will not move a feature you are already paying for out of your plan during a paid period.
5. Prices, VAT and invoices
Prices are shown inclusive of VAT. VAT is computed and collected by Stripe on the basis of the address you enter at checkout; if you are a business, you can enter a VAT number and Stripe will apply the appropriate treatment.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Your invoices, your payment method and your billing details are available through the billing portal linked from your subscription page.
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it on its standard schedule and notifies you. If it ultimately fails, the subscription ends and your account moves to the read-only state described below.
6. Cancelling, and what happens to your data
You can cancel at any time from your subscription page. The subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for; we do not pro-rate a partial period.
After that, your account becomes read-only. Everything you imported — your accounts, your transactions, your parcels, the declarations and summaries you generated — stays exactly where it is and stays readable and downloadable. Nothing is deleted. This is deliberate: those figures may already be on a filed Belgian tax return, and you may need to produce them years later.
What stops is writing: adding accounts and importing new statements resume when you subscribe again. Deleting your data is a separate decision you make yourself, in Settings › Privacy, and it is available in every state including read-only.
7. Right of withdrawal
Consumers in the EU have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within fourteen days. How that right interacts with immediate access to a digital service, and the wording of the acknowledgement required at checkout, are to be settled by legal review before launch.
8. Accuracy and liability
We build this carefully and test it heavily, and we still cannot promise that every figure is correct for every situation. Tax rules change, broker export formats change without notice, and some Belgian rules are not yet settled.
The limitation of liability that applies, and the mandatory consumer protections that cannot be limited under Belgian law, are to be settled by legal review before launch.
9. Changes, applicable law and disputes
We will publish any material change to these terms and give notice before it takes effect for existing subscribers.
The applicable law, the competent courts and the consumer dispute-resolution route to be named are to be settled by legal review before launch.
Open points for legal review
Listed here rather than filled in with plausible wording, because a clause nobody has checked is more dangerous than a visible gap.
- Company identity: legal name, company number, VAT number, registered address, contact address for legal notices.
- Right of withdrawal: the wording, and the checkout acknowledgement that goes with immediate access to a digital service.
- Limitation of liability, and which Belgian mandatory consumer protections override it.
- Applicable law, competent courts, and the consumer dispute-resolution body to name.
- Whether any statement in "what Belfolio is not" needs strengthening for FSMA purposes.
- Whether the read-only-after-cancellation model needs its own clause about data portability.
- Refund policy for a subscription cancelled mid-period.
